The Ferns
Avens has been supporting adults with learning and associated disabilities at the Ferns residential care home since 2014 where we are able to offer high end, ensuite accommodation for up to ten people.
Who We Are
The home is managed by Mrs. Mandy Brady who has been with the service since its opening and her deputy Mr Adrian Mayes.
They have a wealth of experience in the sector and have progressed to their current managerial roles whilst working at Avens.
What We Do
The people we support may have a range of needs that require intensive support including but not limited to:
- Autism;
- Physical disabilities;
- Sensory disabilities;
- Epilepsy;
- Associated mental health support needs;
- Supporting people whose behaviour presents challenges.

Person Centred Planning
At The Ferns we pride ourselves on our person centred support and care. All of our support is determined by the individual and ensures the person is supported to lead a fulfilling life. We welcome working as part of a multidisciplinary team so that the care and support we provide is holistic and person centred. We actively encourage the involvement of individuals’ circles of support, especially during the development of person-centred plans.
The Ferns has an open door policy as we have every confidence in our staff and the service we provide. We believe this promotes teamwork and an honest and transparent service, with a team who is understanding and approachable.
Our Home
The Ferns is located in the market town of Raunds, Northamptonshire.
Avens extensively redeveloped the property prior to opening the home in 2014. As a result, it offers high end accommodation throughout. There are ten private rooms, of which eight are ensuite and two are share a dedicated separate bathroom.
The Ferns has a total of three indoor common areas for its residents to eat, socialise and relax in as well as having a pleasant garden where summer barbecues are favourite pastimes.
The lift makes the property easily accessible for everyone.
It also has the benefit of being close to many amenities including shops, bus stops, a park, church, pubs and the market square.
Its size and layout were specifically designed to provide a homely and welcoming atmosphere.
Current Vacancies
We currently have one vacancy, an upstairs bedroom with own living area and luxury bathroom facilites. This room also has nearby, easy access to the lift, which connects the first floor to the ground floor, making it very suitable for someone with mobility issues.
