Waking Nights Care Worker - The Ferns, Raunds, Northants
Are you looking to work with a team and support vulnerable adults through the night?
The Ferns is a 14 bed residential care home for adults with learning disabilities. There are both part time and full time contracts available, covering between one and four nights a week (21:30-08:00). If you find that you are more active and creative later in the night than during the day, a waking night position might just be for you.

Salary: National Minimum Wage + extra depending on experience and qualifications.
About the Applicant:
We are looking for a hard working team player who thrives on challenges and is self-motivated, as well as being able to demonstrate compassion and empathy in their approach to caring. The Ferns offers a person centred approach to care, so the applicant will need to study all the support plans and be able to carry out this person centred care in order to meet the needs of all the service users.
Previous experience in working in care with people in learning disabilities is desirable but not essential. Applicants who have worked in care before with children, the elderly etc. are also welcome.

Waking night staffs are asked to complete a number of routine tasks while on duty, all the while ensuring service users are supported with privacy, dignity and respect according to their needs, support plans and agreed routines. These routine tasks may include;
- Working in a team of 2 to ensure all service users are supported in accordance with their support plans.
- Laundry requirements like washing, ironing and folding ready for day staff to support service users to put away
- Cleaning duties around the care home including bathrooms, toilets, dusting, polishing, tidying, and cleaning out cupboards and storage
- Record keeping, ensuring that water temperatures are taken and recorded
You will also be required to support the service users living at The Ferns and ensure that they are safe, happy and encouraging them to sleep (unless otherwise stated in their support plan). You may also be required to assist service users with personal care, dressing and perhaps even some night time activities.
Full training is provided, which all staff must attend once a week in the month. Examples of some of the training topics can be seen below.
- Safeguarding Adults, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Awareness
- Medication Administration and Awareness Training
- Person Centred Non Abusive Psychological and Physical Intervention (NAPPI)
- Autism Awareness
- Dementia Awareness
- Mental Health Awareness
- Equality and Diversity Training
Avens also automatically enrols new staff onto the Care Certificate for those who have no or minimal experience in care, as well as putting people through the Diploma Level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care.
