Our Therapies

Therapist Samuel Cockerton has a BA Hons in music and has developed a unique programme of therapy that has made a real difference to service users. Using a range of instruments from drums to African strings, Samuel teaches service users to play tunes and sing to familiar songs. There are regular cabaret sessions and relatives are sometimes invited to take part.

Samuel says: “Everyone enjoys singing and making music. Group sessions allow people to work together and learn together. They also help improve relationships, speech and confidence as well as general communication skills.”

Samuel also gives one to one tuition and says that learning how to play an instrument can help focus an individual’s attention. For instance, with Asperger’s a structured form of learning can help reduce challenging behaviour.
