New domicillary care service launched in Sussex
A range of new services have been launched by a Crowborough company to meet the needs of the increasing number of vulnerable people who need support , but want to live as independently as possible. After 15 years’ specialising in caring for vulnerable people Avens Supported Living can now provide care and support to people in their own homes. There are also tenancies available, in small houses, for vulnerable people who either need to leave their present home, or who wish to take the first step to independence. Working alongside private landlords, Avens Supported Living can help people to claim the benefits they are entitled to and also arrange care staff to meet individuals’ needs. Caroline Bradley, the company’s new manager, explained: “Very few providers can offer a service like ours. We are able to support people with their independence and also with their accommodation if necessary. We have a newly renovated property available immediately which customers can rent privately, to avoid entering a residential care setting, with support from our staff.” Avens Supported Living is now also able to offer some of the most competitive rates available and can provide staff to residential homes, as well as care and support to people aged 55 and over who are frail, elderly or disabled and living in the community. The new extended range of services is being launched across East Sussex and Kent and there are plans to expand into other areas of the country. Unlike some other companies, customers can book care or support for 30 minutes upwards. There is also the opportunity to book a carer to help with tasks like the weekly shopping, or to give a few hours’ support to a family member who is acting as a full-time carer. Alternatively, Avens can provide short-notice emergency care to cover holidays or unforeseen events. Caroline explained: “With residential home fees on the rise, we want to help people remain in their own homes and live as independently as possible while ensuring that they have the opportunity to reach their potential. We offer a person-centred approach to care ensuring that each customer is treated as an individual. “In the past we have specialised in caring for people with learning disabilities but decided we were well placed and have the skills and training to offer care to a wider customer base.” All employees are CRB checked and have been trained by our City and Guilds affiliated training company Tailored Training. “Avens Supported Living has recognised people’s changing needs and we feel we are able to offer a flexible approach to care and support which will allows individuals to remain truly in control of their lives.” Caroline previously worked for another top care provider, which has an excellent rating, and has 23 years’ experience in the care industry. Jackie Head has taken the helm at one of the area’s prime centres for people with learning disabilities. The mother-of-three, who has worked in the care industry for 26 years, is in now in charge of St Anthony in Crowborough. At full capacity, St Anthony is home to 28 service users, some of whom also have physical disabilities. They are looked after by 25 staff who specialise in autistic spectrum disorders and caring for people with challenging behaviour. Jacqueline, who holds a Registered Manager’s Award and NVQ Level 4, said: “I am very excited about my new role. St Anthony is a superb facility and the residents really enjoy living here – they are always kept busy an active with things like music therapy, woodwork and sports. “I find caring for people really rewarding but most especially when people gain more independence and learn to look after themselves. What’s great about St Anthony is that there are three self-contained flats so people can live fairly independently with support when they need it.”
